The
Oracle of the Goddess presents 25 visually enchanting goddess cards, each
done through computer imaging with photographs and traditional art techniques
that have produced stunning images. I particularly enjoy this goddess
card oracle as I can visually imagine myself walking into the life-like
card scenes with the goddesses who each have their own special wisdom and
advice to share with me. As you carefully look at the cards, you
can see how each one has the capacity to touch you at a deep level.
The authors have designed them to be visual triggers to help you feel and
experience the sacred feminine energy within yourself.
Anna Franklin, the author, is also the creator of other well-known pagan works, including "The Wellspring," "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Fairies," "Lammas," "Midsummer," and "Fairy Lore." She and illustrator, Paul Mason, have also combined their talents for the popular "Sacred Circle Tarot" as well as the "Fairy Ring Oracle."
The accompanying 63-page book includes a main keyword for each goddess, information about the goddess, divinatory meanings, and reversed card meanings. The goddesses are listed alphabetically in the book for ease in referencing them. In the book, three spreads are also offered: the Pyramid, the Cauldron, and the Arrows of Brighid.
The cards portray goddesses of varying ages, so this is not a goddess deck that contains only young "super model" images of women in their twenties. A vast array of ages is presented, and I like the author's choice in that, because that is more representative of real life. She also portrays the goddesses much like "real women" with varying body types and sizes. There is naturally some nudity in some of the card scenes, which is typical for a goddess oracle as well as other oracle cards. I try to avoid including cards with nudity on the sample images with my reviews just in case a child should happen upon my website.
The back of the cards show the moon in three phases to represent the Triple Goddess in a cloudy, dark blue evening sky. It is a mirror image picture to allow for reversals of the cards. The set comes in an upright box with a lid. The lid to this box does not stay on well, so this would be a good deck to invest in a special bag to keep the cards in. You could also remove the cardboard holder in the box and warp the cards in a silk cloth.
The following goddesses are presented in this oracle:
