I am a great fan of Doreen Virtue's work, and the Goddess Guidance Oracle is yet another one of her inspiring oracles that I enjoy using. This deck features 44 goddess cards, all with richly colored art that make this work so beautiful. The name of the goddess is noted at the top of each card with a major keyword theme beneath the goddess name. The image is centered in the card with a phrase of guidance at the bottom. The cards have a shiny gilt edging which adds a lustrous effect to the card pack.

Although the back of the cards are not really reversible, the 123-page compact guidebook included with the cards talks about reversals representing blocks or something to pay special attention to. So reversals can be used with this set of cards, like most other oracles. You can choose to allow for reversals in a reading layout or not to, depending on your preference as a reader. Obviously real life is not all sunshine and roses, and so reversals can be significant to point out some areas for the seeker that need special attention and work.

There are no frightening or intimidating images within the cards, as the author's intention was to supply gentle and loving guidance to help one make his or her life easier or better. These cards can be comforting in a crisis situation as there is no fear or mystery attached to them. They can be used to help one achieve or maintain a positive mental attitude in trying circumstances . . . or even in ordinary circumstances when one can still use some guidance or reassurance.

The deck comes in a sturdy box with the guidebook -- a nice little package which is the norm for Doreen Virtue's card sets. The guidebook includes instructions for working with the Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards. Goddesses featured are from ancient and modern cultures, including Greek, Roman, Mayan, Christian, Gnostic, Buddhist, Egyptian, Celtic, African, Norse, Hindu, and others. For each goddess, the guidebook provides the message and theme from that goddess, key meanings and advice, and information about the goddess in terms of history, religion, tradition, or other characteristics. The correct pronunciation for the goddesses is also provided which is helpful for some of the more difficult goddess names.
