The richly detailed and captivating artwork in the "Ancient Feminine Wisdom" cards is what we come to expect from works by Kay Steventon and Brian clark who also created the Spiral Tarot Deck and the Celestial Tarot. The imagery is very similar to their Tarot works, but it should be noted that the "Ancient Feminine Wisdom" cards are NOT a Tarot deck. Apparently there has been some major confusion about that, and understandably so. For starters, the box that holds this deck is misprinted to indicate that there are 78 cards in this set! That is not correct, as this goddess card set contains 52 cards. Additionally, it has been erroneously advertised on internet bookstores as being a set of 78 cards like the Tarot. People have purchased this card set expecting to have a Tarot deck in their hands. But this is a goddess oracle and is not related to the Tarot. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion that might still exist with this oracle.
It is a beautiful deck of goddesses from Greek mythology which can provide wisdom, insight, and enjoyment. As the LWB (little white book) is very typical in the brevity that you usually get with these small guidance books, it would be helpful to have other sources of information for the goddesses if one is not already familiar with them. The LWB is 61 pages and includes only brief information about the goddesses and a tiny section on "feminine wisdom" for each goddess. So although you can get to the main idea or theme of each goddess, the information provided is far from being in-depth. I would have really liked to have seen the authors create a book to accompany this beautiful deck. The card images show us that a lot of work went into the art, and it would have been deserving of a more thorough guidebook to accompany it.
At the top of each card is the name of the goddess, and at the bottom, a keyword is noted to summarize the main energy of the goddess message for the card.
The introduction in the LWB offers more information about the author's vision and use for these cards than does the back of the card box. I think this should have been put on the back of the box instead, as it certainly makes the oracle more enticing (and is more descriptive) than the brief description on the card box. The following is exerpted from the beginning of the informational LWB:
"The culture of the Goddess flourished in ancient times when supernatural forces were defied and nature was regarded as sacred. As science and technology developed, rational explanations replaced the powerful magic of the goddess. Yet the eternal feminine wisdom still exists in our dreams, feelings, and intuitions.Heroines are the surrogates of the goddess who embody the feminine soul. As the spirit of the goddess in the world, the heroine faces trials and tasks on her soul journey through life, protected by the unseen forces of nature and guided by her instincts. Whether this is a journey toward a relationship, a sacrifice for something greater, or the conscious fulfillment of creativity, the heroine's task is to become herself in the world.
The Ancient Feminine Wisdom oracle cards allow the insights of the goddesses to be revealed through the sacred art of divination. . . . Through the cards, the goddess an re-enter your imagination to help unveil a mystery, comfort you in times of uncertainty, or shed light on a situation. When one of the Goddess cards is drawn, the unconscious is identifying with her jurney, encouraging contact with this aspect of yourself."
